Health & Wellness Programs

South Asian older adults face unique health challenges that are often overlooked. They are at a higher risk for chronic conditions and frequently encounter barriers to care due to limited English proficiency, cultural differences, and unfamiliarity with the U.S. healthcare system.

India Home provides culturally and linguistically appropriate health education to help seniors make informed decisions and lead healthier lives. Through partnerships with healthcare organizations and community experts, we offer educational workshops, wellness programs, and preventive health initiatives in languages our members understand.

Our health and wellness initiatives include:

  • Health education workshops: Talks led by physicians, physical therapists, and healthcare professionals on topics relevant to older adults.
  • Yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda: Regular classes that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Falls prevention: Workshops and demonstrations focused on home safety and reducing fall risks.
  • Blood pressure and chronic disease prevention: Community health screenings and education in partnership with healthcare providers.
  • Nutrition education: Culturally tailored guidance on healthy eating, portion sizes, and managing chronic conditions.
  • Multilingual health resources: Health information and educational materials available in Bengali, Hindi, and English. 

By combining culturally responsive education with trusted community partnerships, India Home empowers seniors to improve their health, maintain their independence, and enhance their overall quality of life.

Congregate Meals

Every program day, India Home provides seniors with a warm, congregate South Asian meal. Our meal service goes far beyond offering nutritious, culturally appropriate food.

Research shows that congregate meals support better health outcomes, help address food insecurity among low-income seniors, and improve overall nutrition intake. Most importantly, they create opportunities for conversation, connection, and community.

Many of our seniors live alone, manage chronic health conditions, or face nutritional risk. Our congregate meals program helps address both physical and emotional well-being by giving seniors a welcoming space to share meals, enjoy friendly conversation, and reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The program also offers opportunities for members to volunteer in meal service, helping them feel engaged, valued, and an important part of the India Home community.

We celebrate festivals, birthdays, and other special occasions with thoughtfully prepared meals that honor culture and tradition.

For many of our seniors, these shared, warm meals are one of the most meaningful reasons to come to the center.

Socialization & Community

Meaningful social connections are essential to healthy aging. As older adults experience life changes such as retirement, health challenges, or the loss of loved ones, they can become increasingly vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness, which can negatively affect both physical and mental health.

At India Home, we create welcoming spaces where seniors can build friendships, stay active, and remain connected to their community. Through engaging programs and shared experiences, we help foster a sense of belonging while supporting overall well-being.

Our socialization programs include:

  • Group activities: Yoga, music, dance, games, arts and crafts, and cultural celebrations that encourage connection and active participation.
  • Educational workshops: Informative sessions that promote lifelong learning, cognitive wellness, and healthy aging.
  • Cultural celebrations: Festive gatherings, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, and shared meals that honor South Asian traditions and bring the community together.
  • Day trips and outings: Visits to museums, parks, performances, and other local attractions that encourage exploration and social engagement.
  • Intergenerational programs: Opportunities for seniors, families, and volunteers of all ages to connect through shared activities and special events.


By creating opportunities for friendship, learning, and cultural connection, India Home helps seniors reduce loneliness, improve their quality of life, and remain active members of their community.

Advocacy & Leadership

At India Home, we believe that South Asian older adults deserve to have their voices heard. Through our advocacy and awareness initiatives, we empower seniors to become leaders and changemakers while educating policymakers, service providers, and the broader community about the unique needs of immigrant older adults.

Our seniors regularly engage with elected officials, government agencies, and community leaders to advocate for issues such as language access, affordable housing, transportation, healthcare, and culturally responsive aging services. By sharing their lived experiences, they help shape policies and programs that better serve South Asian and other immigrant communities.

Beyond advocacy, India Home actively participates in conferences, panels, and community forums to raise awareness of the challenges and strengths of aging immigrant populations. We also work to increase the visibility of South Asian older adults by highlighting their stories, achievements, and contributions- challenging stereotypes about aging and ensuring they are represented in conversations about equity, health, and community.

At India Home, advocacy is more than speaking up, it’s about creating opportunities for seniors to lead, influence change, and build a more inclusive future for generations to come.
