Though ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kiya’ was popular song from ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, my father used to like Lata Mangeshkar’s ‘Bekas Pe Karam Kijiye Sarkar-e-Madina’ so much so, we used to playthat record for him many times… Please read the note at the end of this article.

In the film Mughal-e-Azam, Madhubala played Anarkali, a dancing girl who transforms into a human statue. The scene was a highlight of the film, and was achieved through the use of heavy rubber sheets, chemicals, and other special effects.
A lesser-known fact about “Mughal-e-Azam” is that the film took a staggering 16 years to complete with production starting in 1944 and facing numerous delays due to financial issues cast changes and the immense scale of the sets including a massive Mughal Darbar that required months to build making it one of the most expensive Indian films of its time the film’s iconic song “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kiya” alone reportedly cost more than the budget of many other movies at the time…
